Site Launch: Systems Project Management LLC

Systems Project Management LLC

Systems Project Management LLC, Sugar Land, Houston, Texas When our liaison for a recent Utility District project came to us with a request for his consultancy web site and told us he wanted just a few static pages, we knew that we’d be developing his site using the oh-so-simple Get Simple CMS. As you might already know, Get Simple needs no database, but uses XML files. It will be easy for our client to update his own site when the need arises. Techniques employed on the site include a munged email contact link, a contact sheet in the sidebar (easy to do with Get Simple’s “components” feature). The client is very pleased with the site and also with how easy it appears to be to maintain.

Site Launch: See The Southwest

SeeTheSouthwest.com

See the Southwest Pixelita Designs was asked to redesign SeeTheSouthwest.com and migrate it from Geeklog to WordPress, keeping the same features already existing on the site and adding some new WordPress-specific toys, bells and whistles. One thing the client wanted was to feature six boxes on the front page each containing the latest post from each of those six chosen categories. A little custom code and a few graphic goodies and we’re good to go! Pixelita’s graphic artist, Ivan Minic, created the banner from a photo of the famous Monument Valley. The client agrees that Ivan’s design captures exactly the spirit of the web site. The font used is Wild Ride. Some WordPress plugins deployed include WP-Calendar, NextGen Gallery, TTFText Font Replacement, Company Directory, and Twitter Tools.

Site Launch: Gus Wortham Conservancy

GusWortham.info

Gus Wortham Conservancy, Houston, Texas Pixelita Designs created the online presence for the Gus Wortham Conservancy. The site is run completely by conservancy members, who are volunteers in the community and who receive no remuneration, but who are tirelessly devoted to the preservation and conservation of Gus Wortham Park, Houston’s oldest municipal golf course. The group wanted something easy to update, lean and mean, so we chose a new, up and coming CMS called GetSimple CMS. It needs no database, but uses XML files. It will be easy for the group to maintain the site, since GetSimple offers backup and restore functions right from the dashboard, along with an “Undo” button for just about every task.

Site Launch: Parkway Utility District

Parkway Utility District

Parkway Utility District, Houston, Texas We were asked to design the site of Parkway Utility District, a Houston area municipal utility district providing sewer, trash pickup and water services to residents in northeast Houston. They required ease of updating by district board members, document uploads and some SEO. We chose CMS Made Simple because it has an intuitive User Uploads module and an easy to use backend that allows meta data on a per-page basis. Plus, there was talk down the road of a members-only login capability and CMS-MS has its wonderful Front End Users (FEU) module that would take care of that nicely. A custom PHP script calculates the District’s monthly board meeting date and displays it on the front page.

Site Launch: StonefieldVillas.org

Stonefield Villas Homeowners Association

Stonefield Villas Homeowners Association We were asked to redesign the web site of the Stonefield Villas Homeowners Association. It had been running on WordPress but WP’s document upload process was rather buggy and didn’t work on all browsers. And since they weren’t going to do any blogging, we suggested a “hard core” CMS, CMS Made Simple. It has an intuitive User Uploads module and an easy to use photo gallery module. They were sold. Other modules used include Calendar, Bookmarks, Events, and a relatively new module, TrueType, which allows renderable text to be displayed anywhere on the site. (We are using Edwardian ITC on the titles, to match the banner font.)
