Should You Upgrade to MT 3.2?

11/05/2005 :: Bizness, MovableType ::

Six Apart has released the new and improved MovableType. This time, it’s version 3.2. Version 3.x is a year and a half old now and it’s gone through many changes. It looks like the folks at Six Apart listen to their product’s users. Because now, you can have unlimited blogs in the free version of MT 3.2. Before, you were limited to three blogs.

But as if that isn’t enough to make you download the latest MT and fire up your FTP program, then perhaps this will: Six Apart has integrated several spam fighting tools in MT and they are activated by default. Jay Allen is no longer offering MT Blacklist, and indeed, it doesn’t work with the latest version anyway. But you won’t need it hopefully.

I’ve had several clients ask me to upgrade them. Several others are standing pat with their 3.15 or 3.17 versions. But what’s the short answer? Should you upgrade? Ask yourself these questions first:

  1. Are you plagued by comment and trackback spam?
  2. Do you want to take advantage of the latest plugins?
  3. Do you want an easy way to switch themes without hiring a designer to create them and configure your site for skinning?

If you answered yes to just one of the questions above, you should consider upgrading! Web Jones Designs can perform a site and database backup, upgrade you to the latest version of MT and install two new plugins of your choice, all for $25. Act now, offer ends December 31!
